Our first meeting with the client is all about discussing the expectations and the occasion that the garment is being made for. We start the creation of both the vision and begin a story.
Me and my team thoroughly discuss the silhouette that fits the most, what we want to emphasize with the attire. I honestly believe, that the garment must compliment a person that’s wearing it.
We carefully take the measurements by which my clients are surprised most of the time – to make a garment that fits You beautifully it sometimes takes as many as 15 different dimensions. There are many details that are taken into an account for making an individually sewn attire. This is what makes it very precise and yet very complimenting for both us and our clients.
The construction and technology of the model are especially important in this process. We make the construction patterns according to the dimensions of a client’s body, we choose the sewing technology judging on the materials and the model of the garment.
As the paper construction patterns are transformed into a piece of clothing, we work on not only cutting the material and sewing it together. It is all about the technological consistency in putting the pieces together, choosing the right steps to create the final result we are aiming. Knowledge and experience are particularly important here. I truly believe, that my team has both, so I can say with confidence, that we can do anything!
The first fitting is all about seeing the primary image and evaluating what still has to be done. We can asess how the exact piece of clothing sits on our client’s body.
Even though, I say that the first fitting is for the team, the client is also involved in the process of creation. We listen to the ideas and the comments, regarding the attire. We measure the areas that need repair, each line is perfected so it would sit exactly where it has to on our client’s body.
While preparing the garment for the first measurement, we often use the layout material for some parts in order to perfect the construction before cutting into the chosen material. This is usually done if a pattern is quite complex or the construction of the final result is unusual and needs some further work.
After the first fitting, the team gets back to work. We take the sewn product apart and start adjusting the patterns, then cut the material according to the fixes we made. After this, we put the garment back together and make it ready for a second fitting.
Second fitting is important for the refinement of the final piece of clothing. Once again, we evaluate all the details and mark the necessary adjustments. The product on the second fitting is a lot closer to the final look than the first one, for example we already have inserted the lining if it’s needed for the exact product.
If it’s sewn for the exact occasion, we alter the length depending on the shoes our client’s planning to wear or alter the neckline, sleeve length depending on the jewelry. My team always takes the movement into the consideration – how does the final product fits and looks while sitting, walking, etc.
Depending on the complexity of the product, we could even recommend the third fitting if we believe that is important to perfect the final result.
Afterwards, we invite the client to pick up the final product. It is very rewarding seeing a happy client whose vision have been turned into a dream attire by my team.
